It was such an amazing experience to produce this beautiful feature length documentary with my talented friends at GreenLight.
As written on IMDB, A Small Section of the World is an inspirational story about a group of women from a remote farming region of Costa Rica whose ideas sparked a revolution in the coffee growing world. After the men of the village left in search of work, the women came together to imagine a different future for themselves, their families and their community. The film follows the impact of this remarkable story of perseverance as it touches lives around the globe and shows how these resourceful women overcame adversity to change the culture in their small section of the world to one of prosperity and sustainability. Inspired by their story, multi-Grammy winner and the best selling female rock performer of all time, Alanis Morissette, contributed an original anthem to the film, co-written with Costa Rican artist and Grammy winner Carlos Tapado Vargas.

Here you will see the trailer and you can see the movie internationally on Amazon Prime, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu and YouTube Video on demand.

The project took a year and we shot in Costa Rica, Italy and Los Angeles. The story was about the amazing women of ASOMOBI and grew into a world movement with an international conference in Trieste, Italy with inspiring and inspired women in the coffee industry from India, Africa, Costa Rica, Europe etc. It was so empowering and motivational for all.

For the director search, when I first told a rep friend Dana about the project, she proposed Lesley Chilcott to me. Right then I knew she was perfect! Lesley has a stellar history of production from producing many films for Davis Googenheim such as the 2006 Academy Award winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, as well as producing It Might Get Loud and Waiting for Superman in which she also served as 2nd unit director. From there she directed CodeStars.
She's all about female empowerment, she's exceptionally smart and motivated, she's kind and fun, she's resourceful, she's all about sustainability and environmental issues and she lives on her tree farm in Costa Rica part time! I was blown away! How perfect! It was such a pleasure and great experience to work with her.

It was also a pleasure to work with the sweetest people at illy in Trieste, Italy. They are a family owned business in Italy with impeccably high standards and contribute to coffee growers around the world by sending agronomists to teach them about the soil and how to grow the best coffee. Their support of ASOMOBI is just one of their global sustainable initiatives.

The film appeared in global film festivals and the LA Premiere was at ArcLight Hollywood December 4, 2014.
